- Q: Where will I work as an HCA?
- Resident Care Aide graduates work in both private and publicly funded facilities and agencies, as well as a variety of community settings.
- Q: What kinds of health care facilities will I be able to work in?
- These may include extended care, intermediate care, assisted living, acute care hospitals, home support for children, adults and families; rehabilitation facilities, and group homes. Care may include respite & palliative care.
- Q: As an HCA, who will I work with?
- RCAs work as part of a team within a designated care plan, under the supervision and delegation of a health care professional such as a Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Q: Are my opportunities only within large facilities?
- No. HCA’s may also be hired, under private contract, as caregivers by individual clients and through agencies dedicated to providing such services.
- Q: What are the roles of an HCA?
- RCA roles include assisting clients with personal care such as bathing and dressing; performing selected health care procedures, such as taking vital signs, and providing oxygen therapy, ostomy care; and observing and reporting changes in behavioural and physical condition. The role may also include assisting with selected household duties, such as meal preparation and light housework, in addition to personal care.
- Q: I am an International Student. Can I enrole in your program?
- Absolutely. The program offers international students the skills and qualifications they need to be able to work in Canada.
